NARAS joins in Colorado ban

The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences will suspend all scheduled activities in Colorado in response to the state amendment that repeals equal rights laws based on sexual orientation.

NARAS said yesterday that president Mike Greene would withdraw as keynote speaker for the Jan. 29 Colorado Music Educators Assn. convention and the will suspend this year’s Grammy in the Schools program and all-star jazz band for the state, slated to begin Jan. 28.

The Grammy in the Schools program presents students with free lectures, performances and workshops with top professionals, although NARAS said it would make the print and video materials available to students affected by the cancellation.
