Bertelsmann Music Group has formed a new unit designed to develop links between the company’s music and entertainment holdings and emerging technologies.
BMG New Technologies will pursue new areas of business, mainly through joint-venture partnerships and strategic alliances, according to the company.
Initial areas of concentration include interactive software (such as CD-ROM) and distribution channels (emphasis on digital delivery through cable and satellite networks).
The unit will be the front-line organization for the company’s worldwide labels and companies.
Christian Jorg will head the new unit, carrying the title of VP of new technologies. Jorg was formerly director of new technologies for BMG Intl.
He will report to Tom McIntyre, BMG senior VP and chief financial officer.
Michael Dornemann, chairman/CEO of BMG, said Jorg has “spearheaded BMG’s exploration of new technologies.”
“The formation of BMG New Technologies further reinforces Bertelsmann’s commitment to these exciting new areas of growth and investment,” he said.
