Atlantic Records has promoted Val Azzoli to exec VP/general manager of the label, according to co-chairman/co-CEO Doug Morris.
Azzoli, formerly the label’s seniorVP/general manager, will continue to oversee day-to-day operations at Atlantic.
“Since joining the Atlantic family just three years ago, Val has played a central role in realigning and fine-tuning a number of areas within the company, with a focus on long-range artist development,” said Morris.
“In particular, he has been instrumental in developing custom-tailored marketing strategies designed to utilize a wide spectrum of both traditional and non-traditional avenues for artist exposure and sales. Our current success is due in no small part to Val’s creativity and hard work.”
Azzoli, based in New York, joined Atlantic in June 1990. He was named VP in February 1991, with responsibility for the label’s marketing activities while also directly supervising the alternative, dance, metal and country areas. He became senior VP/general manager in October 1991.
He was an artist manager at Q-Prime before joining Atlantic. From 1980-89, Azzoli was general manager of Anthem Records in Toronto. He was a VP of ATV Music Publishing from 1977-80.
