Canal Plus, Europe’s largest pay TV network, reported consolidated revenue for the first nine months of the year is up 9.4% over 1992 at 6.3 billion francs ($ 1.1 billion).A company statement released Thursday said subscription revenue rose 10.4% to 5.2 billion francs ($ 912 million). Meanwhile, advertising and sponsorship deals were worth 326 million francs ($ 57 million). Revenue from the network’s film production arm, Studio Canal Plus, dipped slightly to 170 million francs ($ 29.8 million). After a year-end net loss of around $ 21 million, Studio Canal Plus is expected to show a profit this year. Of the foreign affiliates, Canal Plus Belgium and Canal Plus Spain are past the break-even point, while the German subsid, Premiere, is due to start making money in early 1994. Company insiders continue to predict that 1993 profits will be 1.2 billion francs ($ 210 million).
