The Ark Trust has tapped 23 television programs, print articles, films and arts achievements as recipients of the seventh annual Genesis Awards, honoring those who spotlight animal issues.

Awardees will be honored at the Century Plaza Hotel Feb. 28, the event to be taped for a cable broadcast in the spring on an outlet to be named.

The Genesis Awards are sponsored by the Ark Trust, a nonprofit humane organization devoted to raising public consciousness about animal issues.

Among the recipients are producer Ivan Reitman’s film, “Beethoven”; playwright Arthur Miller’s “The Misfits”; NOVA’s documentary, “Saddam’s War On Wildlife”; reporter/producer Christine Lund of KABC-TV for her series, “Saving The Horses”; NBC-TV’s drama, “Sisters”; the Los Angeles Times Magazine for Howard Rosenberg’s story on the animal rights movement; and Sports Illustrated’s article on the scam of killing race horses for insurance.

The 1992 Doris Day Music Award will be given to Capitol recording artists Megadeth for its commentary on the album, “Countdown To Extinction.”

The 1992 Dolly Green Special Achievement Award will go to marine life artist Wyland. The Ark Trust is a beneficiary of the estate of Dolly Green.

A new Genesis Award honoring international achievement–the Brigitte Bardot International Award–will be given to the Russian Television Newsmagazine, “+11, ” for a breakthrough look at the animal rights movement in Russia.
