Women in Film has formed a public service announcement committee to produce a half-dozen pro bono announcements for non-profit organizations and distribute them for television, radio and theatrical exposure.

The organization will underwrite the initial operating costs for the production and distribution of the first spot but says it will need donations and corporate sponsorship to continue the program.

The first spot will be for Cities in Schools, a national dropout prevention program. The spot will be distributed nationally and encourage community members to help by tutoring, counseling and mentoring high-risk kids.

Other topics will include teen pregnancy, women at risk for AIDS, violence against women, and homelessness.

In other business, the organization has appointed three new directors to its board. Former “Tonight Show” executive producer Helen Kushnick, writer/director/producer Pola Miller and “The Fisher King” producer Debra Hill will serve three-year terms.
