‘Vertigo’ tops Gay Fest faves

As part of the opening ceremonies for the San Francisco Intl. Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, event organizers released results of a poll of favorite films voted by 210 lesbian and gay film/vid makers, curators and critics.

They billed the survey as a pre-fest “cheeky riposte to all those dreary Top 10 critics’ lists.” Sure enough, the poll yielded some unusual picks:

1. “Vertigo” (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958).

2. “Sunset Boulevard” (Billy Wilder, 1950).

3. “The Times of Harvey Milk” (Robert Epstein, 1984).

4. “La Dolce Vita” (Federico Fellini, 1960).

5. “Jeanne Dielman” (Chantal Ackerman, 1975).

6. “Citizen Kane” (Orson Welles, 1941).

7. “Imitation of Life” (Douglas Sirk, 1959).

8. “The Wizard of Oz” (Victor Fleming, 1939).

9. “Thelma and Louise” (Ridley Scott, 1991).

10. “Law of Desire” (Pedro Almodovar, 1987).
