Ed. Weinberger, one of television’s most prolific writer/producers, has sold his feature script “The Castaways” to Hollywood Pictures. The action comedy, described as a buddy picture about a black man and a white man, is Weinberger’s second feature sale in six months.
His first, “Dirty Secrets,” was optioned by producer Ed Pressman and is being eyed as a starrer for Sharon Stone.
A Disney spokesperson could not be reached for comment, nor could Weinberger.
Despite the double-whammy feature sale, Weinberger has spent most of his career centered on the small screen. Most recently he exec produced ABC’s “Baby Talk,” in addition to NBC’s “Amen” and “Dear John.” He also exec produced “The Man in the Family” for Columbia.
Weinberger won five Emmys as writer/producer on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and won three for “Taxi,” which he created and executive produced. In 1985, he won his ninth Emmy for the premiere episode of “The Cosby Show,” which he co-created.
