Tristar ups Strauss to ad veep slot

TriStar Pictures announced Tuesday that it has promoted Ricky Strauss to the post of veepee of creative advertising, giving the six-year studio veteran added responsibilities over print and audio-visual advertising.

Previously executive director of creative advertising, Strauss joined TriStar’s publicity department in 1987, ascended to a junior executive’s post the following year and became manager of creative advertising for Columbia/TriStar marketing units in 1991.

During his tenure, Strauss has worked on such TriStar movies as “The Fisher King,””Hook,””Bugsy,””Basic Instinct,””Cliffhanger,””Sleepless in Seattle” and “So I Married an Axe Murderer.”

Strauss reports to senior veepee of creative advertising William Loper, who made announcement of the promotion. Strauss is currently working on such upcoming releases as “Rudy,””Look Who’s Talking Now” and “Philadelphia.”
