Skewes named Triumph gen mgr

Michael T. Skewes was named general manager of Columbia TriStar Films of Canada’s Triumph Releasing Corp. branch, the company announced Friday.

He replaces Ted Hulse, who retired this week after 11 years (Daily Variety, June 18).

Skewes’ responsibilities will include sales, billing and collection for all TriStar, Columbia and Triumph fare exhibited in Canada, as well as the execution of release patterns and administrative operations. He will operate out of Toronto, reporting to Triumph general sales manager and VP Dan Marks and TriStar and Columbia distrib presidents Bill Soady and Jeff Blake, respectively.

Skewes previously held several spots with the Cineplex Odeon Corp., which he joined in 1980. He served as prexy of Filmhouse Group, once Canada’s largest printing and sound operation, and prior to that he was with United Artists, MGM and New World/Mutual Pictures.
