Burt Reynolds will guest on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” Monday, possibly boosting the hour leading into NBC’s intro of “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” In other latenight news, ABC announced that “Nightline” will air weekly documentary-style and investigative pieces, called “Nightline Friday Specials,” in the show’s regular timeslot.

Principal photography begins Sept. 27 on Universal’s The Shadow,” starring Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Sir Ian McKellan and Jonathan Winters. Film is written by David Koepp, directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Martin Bregman and Michael S. Bregman.

On Oct. 26, “Dennis the Menace” will become the first homevid released under Warner Bros.’ new Family Entertainment label. Pic will be boosted by an ad campaign covering print and electronic media, and cross-promotional tie-ins with Crush Soda and Hires Root Beer. Suggested retail price for sell-through is $ 24. 96.

Lillian Smith and Dan Weaver have been named exec producers of Fox Television Stations Prods.’ Mo Gaffney talker “The Mo Show,” which preems Sept. 27 on the Fox stations in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Director is Kac Young and producers are Linda Beal, Brad Bessey, Ilana Friedland and Katie O’Neil.
