MPAA prez/CEO Jack Valenti takes on the hot topic “Violence in Film: How to Define It and How to Deal With It” in a speech Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Century City Marriott. Valenti is the industry’s chief lobbyist in D.C., where there’s a heightened interest in the issue.

Gil Cope, former photographic assistant for Richard Avedon, Francesco Scavullo and Bill King, has joined Harmony Pictures’ directorial staff. Cope has won awards for print work for Reebok, Royal Caribbean, IBM and Revlon.

The Film Information Council voted Universal/Amblin’s “Jurassic Park” its June excellence in film marketing award.

The Screen Actors Guild says it will donate $ 125,000 to AIDS service organizations this year. The union created an AIDS task force earlier this year and recently approved general fund contributions to the cause.
