Arthur (Scud Stud) Kent, who gained national attention as an NBC News correspondent during the Gulf War, was named host Monday of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.’s current affairs show “Man Alive.” Kent said he will originate “Man Alive” from Toronto but will maintain a base in Los Angeles, where he is suing NBC for his suspension and subsequent firing after he refused an assignment in Zagreb, Croatia, during a contract dispute.

Fox Inc. and the city of Beverly Hills have entered into an agreement concerning traffic improvements in connection with the Fox Studio expansion project. The agreement calls for Fox to pay $ 900,000 for improvements. City officials said they fully support the project, stating that it will bring more jobs to the area.

Jack Palance will assay the voice of Rothbart in producer-director Richard Rich’s animated musical with a working title “Swan Lake.” John Cleese also is lending his voice to the pic, skedded for a November 1994 release. Jared Brown is exec producer on the Rich Animation Studios film.

Mary Page Keller, most recently featured on the ABC series “Camp Wilder” and “Baby Talk,” has joined the cast of the new comedy “Joe’s Life,” playing the wife of star Peter Onorati. The new series, scheduled to air Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., comes from ABC Prods.

NBC Prods. and ICD/The Hearst Corp. have agreed to publish a “prequel” novel to the web’s upcoming “Great Escapes” serial “Trade Winds.” The novel will be available prior to the show’s Aug. 27 preem, according to the network.
