While everybody wonders whether “The Larry Sanders Show” star Garry Shandling will take CBS’ offer to follow David Letterman in the 12:30 a.m. slot, he’d reportedly first like to discover how it feels to be a movie star. Since the HBO show is among the most acclaimed on TV, Shandling’s been getting plenty of movie offers, in addition to the latenight talkshow gig from NBC, which he turned down.
According to sources, he’ll make his big movie debut (not counting an uncredited bit part in “The Night We Never Met”) playing Warren Beatty’s lawyer and best friend in WB’s remake of “An Affair to Remember.”
The film also stars Annette Bening and will be directed by Glenn Gordon Caron. Shandling’s the third lead in the pic. Though Shandling’s got a development deal at Columbia to star in films, he’s getting his feet wet with a scene-stealing part in an A-list movie. “Affair” is likely to generate even more attention because of the homage it got from TriStar’s hit “Sleepless in Seattle.”
WB didn’t return calls, CAA wouldn’t comment and Shandling’s manager, Brad Grey, was unavailable to comment.
