Screenings up 45% at Indie Film Market

Sixty-six feature films will be included in the Independent Feature Film Market, along with 107 shorts and 125 works in progress. The tally represents a 45% jump in screenings over last year.

The 298-film roster, which has necessitated the addition of a second screening facility at the nearby Joseph Papp Public Theater, will include the Andrew Young-Susan Todd documentary “Lives in Hazard.” The filmmakers scored last year with IFFM hit and Sundance award-winner, “Children of Fate.”

The eight-day market, running Sept. 27 through Oct. 4 at New York’s Angelika Film Center, will include several new services, including a program annex for seminars, panel discussions and a buyer VIP lounge housing a script library and video screening service.

Considered a primary outlet for the screening of independent films, the IFFM, operated by the Independent Feature Project, has in past years introduced such indies as “Metropolitan,””Paris Is Burning,””Roger & Me,” and “Slacker.”

And for the first time at the IFFM, documentaries will be presented as a separate section of the market catalog. The section, sponsored by distrib Tapestry Intl., was designed to assist buyers seeking this type of project, according to IFFM director Rachael Shapiro.
