Roth looks for new home turf

Producer Steve Roth, who has a producer credit on Columbia Pictures’ “Last Action Hero,” is looking for his next whistlestop, he confirmed Thursday.

The producer’s overall term deal at Columbia Pictures is set to expire in July, which has sparked preliminary talks with rival studios including Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox, according to Roth.

He said Colpix also remains in the running for a deal.

Roth’s production company first acquired the screenplay to “Last Action Hero.” The film has been spearheaded by Columbia Pictures chairman Mark Canton, president of worldwide production Michael Nathanson, executive VP production Barry Josephson, director John McTiernan, executive producer/star Arnold Schwarzenegger and Roth.

International Creative Management chairman Jeff Berg has represented Roth on a picture-by-picture basis but is not involved in current talks. Berg had no comment.
