U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno will join Robert Townsend, the writer-director-star of MGM’s new adventure-comedy “Meteor Man,” in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 3 for the 10th anniversary of the National Night Out crime and drug prevention program.
Symbolizing the fight against inner-city crime, Reno and Townsend will start the ceremony by turning on a symbolic porch light in the Justice Dept.’s Great Hall.
NNO unites neighborhoods with local law enforcement and city officials nationwide. On Aug. 3, more than 26 million Americans in more than 8,600 communities will participate in other NNO events.
A similar theme is at the center of “Meteor Man,” about a high school teacher , played by Townsend, who becomes a reluctant superhero for his neighborhood. Pic opens nationwide Aug. 6.
