Quintano pens ‘Father’

Gene Quintano has been signed by Prelude Pictures to write the screenplay for the comedy “Our Father,” to star John Candy.

Based on an original idea by Candy, the film is being developed by the Paramount Pictures-based Prelude in association with Candy’s Frostbacks Production company.

The comedy, which will go into production this fall in Detroit, is the story of a Beverly Hills priest who is exiled to a downtown Detroit parish as punishment for his self-indulgent lifestyle.

Quintano, who recently wrote “National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon,” also wrote the third and fourth installments of the “Police Academy” series.

Prelude, which is a joint venture with Neufeld-Rehme Prods., is also developing a major theatrical production of “Lost in Space” (based on the popular cult-classic TV series), and has a slate of 13 other theatrical projects in development.
