Though the town has been abuzz with several front-burner MGM/UA script titles for a few weeks now, United Artists prexy John Calley announced Tuesday that the banner’s first acquisition is the romancer “Martine” by screenwriter Ron Bass.
Calley said, “‘Martine’ will be among the first wave of films from UA,” adding that the studio will announce several other varied titles in weeks to come.
“We’ll be doing all sorts of things,” Calley stated. “‘Martine’ is not necessarily typical of (our slate.)”
The pic will be developed for UA by Bass and Pfeiffer/Guinzburg Prods., Michelle Pfeiffer and Kate Guinzburg’s outfit. Bass and Guinzburg will produce their original story. Recently appointed UA exec production VP Rebecca Pollack will oversee development on the pic.
Billed as a contemporary love story, “Martine” describes a love triangle between a woman and two men.
