“Working Girl,””Mr. Destiny” and “One Good Cop” producer Laurence Mark has been attached as producer of the Disney project “Maniac Magee,” which is based on author Jerry Spinelli’s Newbery Award-winning children’s book franchise by the same name, it was announced Wednesday.
Mark will team with Lancit Media Prods. and Allofit Prods. on development of “Maniac Magee,” which is about a 12-year-old boy who mysteriously shows up in a Pennsylvania mill town.
“Maniac Magee” is being developed for “The Adventures of Huck Finn” star Elijah Wood. Disney-based Laurence Mark Prods. previously produced “Huck Finn” for Buena Vista, while Wood’s William Morris Agency agent Brian Swardstrom has been hired by Lancit and Allofit to package the picture around Wood (Daily Variety, April 30).
Lancit Media is headed by chief executive Cecily Truett. Allofit is headed by “L.A. Law” actors Joanna Frank and Alan Rachins.
