‘Love’ opening pushed back

Faced with a summer loaded with film releases, Universal Pictures has decided to postpone the opening of “For Love or Money,” starring Michael J. Fox, pushing it from July to October.

“We think it will be to our advantage to open in the fall,” said Tom Pollock, chairman of the MCA Motion Picture Group.

“Faced with a similar situation last year, 20th Century Fox had great success with opening ‘The Last of the Mohicans’ in the fall instead of the summer, as originally planned.”

The film, also starring Gabrielle Anwar (“Scent of a Woman”), is now due to open Oct. 8, during the Columbus Day weekend.

“Not only will the field be less crowded, but many theaters equipped with DTS , which are currently reporting record box office with ‘Jurassic Park,’ will be available by then,” Pollock said. DTS is the new digital sound system introduced with the opening of “Jurassic Park.”

“For Love or Money,” from Imagine Films Entertainment, is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
