Henson Prods. opens Creature Shop

All creatures great and small will now get a new home in the Hollywood community: Jim Henson Prods. has announced the opening of the Creature Shop in Burbank.

Previously, the shop had temporary digs all over Los Angeles, providing on-set support to pix like the upcoming Amblin/Universal feature “The Flintstones” and the ABC TV series “The Dinosaurs.”

“With the addition of a permanent Los Angeles workshop, we’re truly a global creature shop,” said company prexy/CEO Brian Henson in a release. “We can respond at a moment’s notice to any type of project anywhere in the world.”

The original shop, established in London in 1979, worked on productions like “The Dark Crystal,””Labyrinth” and “Jim Henson’s The Storyteller.” It also helped weave creature magic in pix like “Dreamchild” and “The Bear.”

Current projects for the new Los Angeles shop include “The Neverending Story III,””Babe” and “The Muppet Treasure Island.”
