Disney-distributed Caravan Pictures has inked a deal with screenwriter Todd Graff and former 20th Century Fox creative executive Miriam Kazdin to write and produce the comedy “Woke Up Laughing,” it was announced Tuesday.
As part of the pact, Graff will enter into a first-look screenwriting deal with Caravan.
The deal is somewhat unusual for a stand-alone production arm, and provides further evidence that Caravan is essentially operating as an autonomous studio under the Walt Disney Studios umbrella.
A romantic comedy, “Woke Up Laughing” is scheduled to be delivered by Graff to Caravan in late January. Upon delivery, it is anticipated that Caravan will quickly turn the project around and take it out to directors and stars — an indication of the confidence that Roth and Birnbaum have in the project.
