The European Film Award ceremony will stay in Berlin, or at least in the neighborhood, Daily Variety has learned.

Berlin offered the Felix Awards and its sponsoring org, the European Film Academy, a permanent home just over a year ago, but last summer reneged on the offer.

The city claimed it could no longer help to foot the bill for the prize gala, which has been held for the past two years at Studio Babelsburg (formerly DEFA) just outside city limits in the neighboring German state of Brandenburg.

At a meeting this week, EFA members voted to accept a deal that will keep Felix where he is.

EFA’s Marion Doring is relieved at the decision, saying it is too soon for the 5-year-old ceremony to go back on the road.

Financing is not certain, but in addition to money from MEDIA 95, Berlin, Brandenburg and pubcaster ZDF, the EFA will be actively seeking sponsors for the December event.
