The Walt Disney Co.’s Christmas pic, “The Three Musketeers,” has run into ratings problems in Sweden.
Distrib Buena Vista wants the film to get a rating that would allow anyone over the age of 7 to see the youth-oriented pic.
But the Board of Censors says such a rating would require cuts.
The censors want to make four cuts, totaling somewhat more than a minute. Three of the cuts are very short; the fourth is longer. The censors want to completely remove the scene in which the character of Porthos fights in a dungeon with a disfigured man.
Buena Vista has appealed the cuts. Managing director Erik Broberg told Daily Variety, “We appeal because we feel that these cuts are completely (unwarranted) in a pic of this kind.” He also pointed out that in neighboring Denmark and Norway, the film got similar ratings to the one BV wants without making any cuts.
