Turner Home Entertainment has signed to bring to homevideo some of the highlights from the wonderful world of wrestling. The label has inked to distribute key matches from World Championship Wrestling telecasts.
Initially airing as WCW pay-per-view events, Turner will roll out “Halloween Havoc,” the annual fright-night event; “Fall Brawl,” a fight to the finish among eight WCW wrestlers; and “Battlebowl,” a series of tag-team matches.
Each vidcassette will feature on-the-mat coverage of matches involving popular heavyweight wrestlers Sting, Vader, Ravishing Rick Rude and Cactus Jack.
Using the WCW motto “This ain’t kid stuff; this is serious wrestling,” Turner will aggressively market its homevideo tri-pack of three hours of uncut footage, unique matchups and commentary from wrestling legend Gene Okerland for the serious wrestling fan.
The homevid label will tout the releases with an extensive schedule of promotional spots over Turner Broadcasting’s airwaves.
“WCW has a higher percentage of loyal adult viewers than any other wrestling organization,” said Stuart Snyder, senior VP and general manager for Turner. “We anticipate these releases will move quickly off the shelves.”
