As the latest example of Hollywood increasingly turning to younger auds and their parents, Republic Pictures Home Video sealed an eight-year licensing agreement with Children’s Television Workshop to distribute a broad collection of CTW’s educational product, the companies announced Tuesday.

Aside from “Sesame Street,” which CTW retains as an independent property, this arrangement grants Republic full access to package and distribute the Workshop’s entire 25-year library.

Under the terms of the deal, the Republic-distribbed CTW label kicks off July 26 with a package that includes episodes from the “Ghostwriter” series, the Muppets-starrer “Basil Hears a Noise” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Republic also acquired homevid distrib rights for the 14-year-old Emmy-winning series “The Electric Company,””3-2-1-Contact” and “Square One TV’s Mathnet,” in addition to the science-oriented program “CRO,” which will appear as a CTW title in 1994.

“Children’s Television Workshop is probably the most prestigious name in children’s programming,” said senior veep Glenn Ross of Republic Pictures Corp. “They’re the experts and at the same time the experimenters, and that’s what makes them exciting.”
