‘Amy’ kicks off ABC-WEA deal

Capital Cities/ABC Video Publishing Inc. has entered into a three-year exclusive deal by which Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corp. will be the domestic homevid distributor on all programming under the ABC Video label.

The deal commences with ABC’s top-rated telepic “The Amy Fisher Story,” featuring additional footage shot for homevid and international theatrical exhibition.

It will be released March 31.

“We made the determination that we did not want to reinvent the wheel,” said Jon R. Peisinger, prez of Capital Cities/ABC Video Publishing Inc., the Stamford , Conn.-based outfit created last November as a North American homevid conduit for all CapCities/ABC units.

“Everything that we are looking for is inherent in the WEA system,” he said, enabling his company to “access the range of distribution services that we would require through a relationship with an existing organization,” rather than taking on additional overhead.

Video release of ABC’s “The Amy Fisher Story” will be available to retailers with a suggested retail price of $ 89.98. It represents round 2 of the Amy Fisher derby, following the recent blitz of network telepix in the aftermath of the May ’92 attack on Mary Jo Buttafuoco by the 17-year-old Fisher.

It was earlier announced that NBC’s “Amy Fisher: My Story”– also including footage exclusively for homevid — would be released by Turner Home Entertainment on the ACI Films Label in April. No homevid date has been announced for CBS’ version, “Casualties of Love: The ‘Long Island Lolita’ Story.”

Peisinger said his company already has embarked on “a very ambitious” acquisition and development program and anticipates distribution of three to four titles per month, with the regular distribution schedule slated to commence by late May.
