Marking a potential new working relationship between suppliers of theatrical films and homevideo distributors, Skouras Pictures and Paramount Home Video say they will work closely in theatrical and video marketing of Skouras’ “Watch It,” which arrives in theaters March 26.Executives of both Skouras and Paramount Home Video hailed the marketing concept, which ensures that video distributors and retailers get early access to theatrical marketing plans. “We can’t turn our back on the video industry,” said Marc Halperin, Skouras Pictures president of marketing and distribution. “I don’t fear video retailers, and it’s time to stop keeping them in the dark about our marketing.” “Having Skouras come to us with campaigns is a first,” said Alan Perper, Paramount Home Video senior VP, marketing. “We can plan and follow what they are doing and it will help us market the film when it eventually comes to Home Video.” “Watch It” is a romantic comedy starring Peter Gallagher, Suzy Amis, John C. McGinley and Jon Tenley. Written and directed by Tom Flynn, the film will have its intital opening in three markets — Los Angeles, New York and Chicago — and will platform slowly. Pic will be released to video next August. According to Danny Kopels, president of Skouras Pictures Home Video, all theatrical release plans will be laid out to the video trade, which he says will help shape plans for the video release. “Instead of keeping them in the dark up until the time of the video release, they can start planning early, which helps to create excitement about the product,” he said.
