The addition of a studio executive to an interactive games company is becoming a genuine trend in Hollywood.
Tom Allen has joined the newly named Virgin Interactive Entertainment as chief operating officer of Virgin Games Inc.
Allen, former senior vice president of finance and administration of Fox Broadcasting Inc., will be joining the board of VIE. He will also have the title of exec VP and chief financial officer of VIE.
Allen will report to Martin Alper, president of Virgin Games, which is based in Irvine. Virgin Interactive is a unit of the U.K.-based Virgin Group.
Virgin Games is known for its interactive CD-ROM game “Seventh Guest.”
The appointment follows moves last month by 20th Century Fox president Strauss Zelnick to head Crystal Dynamics, a Silicon Valley software company, and Alan Gershenfeld’s to jump from Pressman Films to run creative affairs for Activision Inc. in L.A.
