Home Shopping Network Inc. has named Michael W.D. McMullen president of its new international division, the St. Petersburgh, Fla.-based company said Thursday.

McMullen previously ran his own U.S.-based international consulting company, Michael W.D. McMullen & Associates Inc., with partners in Atlanta, Tokyo, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. Clients included CNN, Turner Intl. and the Coca-Cola Co.

At one time, McMullen worked for Coca-Cola, helping establish that company in Japan and China.

His consultancy was in international cable and satellite programming, which is where he developed a relationship with HSN president/CEO Gerald F. Hogan, then a senior executive with Turner Broadcasting.

Hogan said McMullen’s “first-hand knowledge of the global marketplace and expertise in working with business people from various cultures are invaluable assets in developing worldwide operations for Home Shopping.”

HSN’s international division was formed to explore opportunities in interactive TV, particularly in Europe.

In a statement, McMullen said he took the job for the challenge of involving HSN in “the next great innovation in the global marketplace, televised interactive shopping.”
