Two-term board member Dorothy C. Fontana has thrown her hat into the ring for the post of VP of the Writers Guild of America West, marking the upcoming election’s first officer candidate to run by petition.
“This year gives us a spectacular opportunity to clean house and have fresh ideas in the officer ranks that we desperately need to provide a completely new vision to helm the Guild,” Fontana said.
“I hear a certain amount of dissatisfaction from members and I believe it’s because much of the Guild dealings have been the same old, same old.”
Fontana will be running against incumbent WGAW veepee Carl Gottlieb and Alfred L. Levitt, both of whom were nominated by the Guild’s nominating committee.
The committee also nominated Frank Pierson and Irma Kalish for president; John Wells and Cynthia Thompson for secretary/treasurer.
Fontana said there will be a slate of board nominees running by petition with whom she will affiliate. Those nominees will be announced after the July 23 deadline for entry. Voting will take place by mail and at the Guild Theater during the annual general meeting Sept. 21.
