Marlon Brando has sued producer Elliott Kastner for allegedly giving him a $ 1 million check that bounced.
Brando, in a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, says Kastner promised him the million in return for his agreement to appear in a film tentatively titled “Treasure Island, the Musical.”
Brando claims that Kastner knew he didn’t have sufficient funds in the Cinema Intl. Corp. account on which the check was drawn and that he made the million-dollar promise so that Brando’s agreement to appear would help Kastner raise financing for the film.
The suit, which alleges breach of an oral agreement, negligent misrepresentation and fraud, seeks the $ 1 million plus unspecified punitive damages.
Brando’s attorney, Edward Medvene, said Wednesday that he and Brando were waiting for the other side to answer the complaint. He had no further comment.
Kastner could not be reached for comment.
