Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution’s “NightTalk with Jane Whitney” (known as “The Jane Whitney Show” in daytime markets) has received from several stations a firm 52-week commitment starting Jan. 1.
List includes KCAL-TV, WCVB in Boston, KPIX in San Francisco and the Scripps-Howard stations (a partner in the show) as the distrib begins its initial selling phase for the national launch of the syndie talker. Program debuted March 30 in a limited rollout in 14 markets, with 11 more joining during the regional phase.
Hearst Entertainment has launched the distribution of “Mouth Off,” a weekly half-hour comedy gameshow featuring comedians in battle. The program, set to premiere in fall 1993, will be produced by Richard Crystal (“Life’s Most Embarrassing Moments”) and hosted by Tom Parks (“Not Necessarily the News”). Distrib is offering 26 episodes on a barter basis.
Howard Hessman has agreed to appear in five episodes of MTM’s firstrun syndie series “The New WKRP in Cincinnati.” The actor, who reprises his role as Dr. Johnny Fever from the original network series, will also direct two additional episodes.
Ken DuBow has been named exec VP of Newgard Entertainment. He will also become a partner and board member of the company. DuBow formerly served as veepee/director of Eastern sales for Blair Entertainment.
