Buena Vista Television’s new syndie animated series “Goof Troop” has taken a bite out of “Batman: The Animated Series” on the Fox Children’s Network.

In week four of the hotly contested fall kidvid season, the newest entry in two-hour “Disney Afternoon” block surpassed “Batman” in the key selling demos of kids 2-11 and 6-11.

‘Goof’ leads 2-11 demo

“Goof” captured a 6.8 rating in the 2-11 group vs. a 6.1 for “Batman,” according to the Nielsen national animation rankings for the week ended Oct. 4.

In the 6-11 category, the canine clan grabbed a 7.0 rating compared to a 6.2 for its primary competitor.

The Warner Bros.-produced “Batman,” however, still holds a commanding lead over “Goof” in terms of household ratings (a 4.8 vs. 3.4), teens (5.3 vs. 3.6) and the 9-14 “tweens” (6.7 vs. 6.1).

‘Batman’ slides

Since its Sept. 7 premiere, “Goof” has grown 8% from a 6.3 in kids 2-11 and 11% from a 6.3 in kids 6-11.

During the same period, “Batman” has fallen 5% from a 6.4 in kids 2-11 and declined 3% from a 6.4 in kids 6-11.

The dark cartoon series, which some critics have noted may be better suited for an adult audience in prime time, fell to its lowest level yet in both of the children’s demos.

Compared to the previous week, “Batman” plunged 21% from a 7.7 mark in kids 2 -11 and 23% from an 8.0 in the 6-11 category.
