ABC has picked up yet another sitcom from Miller-Boyett Prods., “Getting By,” as a midseason replacement.
The comedy stars Cindy Williams and Telma Hopkins as two mothers–one divorced, the other widowed, both with two kids– who move into a house together.
In an unusual move, Hopkins will continue to appear in another Miller-Boyett comedy for ABC, “Family Matters,” playing a different character.
“Getting By” has been recast and re-developed since it was pitched last spring under the title “A New Day,” which featured Williams as the mother of a nuclear family that adopted a black teenager. Williams starred previously in the ABC hit “Laverne & Shirley,” which ran from 1976-83.
The new sitcom will be produced by Bickley/Warren Prods. in association with Miller-Boyett and Lorimar TV. William Bickley, Michael Warren, Thomas L. Miller, Robert L. Boyett, Ken Cinnamon and Karen Wengrod are exec producers.
In addition to “Family Matters” Miller-Boyett produces the ABC sitcoms “Full House” and “Step by Step.” Lorimar currently has seven series on ABC as well as a number of back-up shows, the most by any supplier for a single network.
