Polygram shuffles special markets arm

Polygram Group Distribution has restructured its special markets division, naming Robert Bell senior VP and Howard Smiley VP.

Bell and Smiley were formerly president and VP, marketing and artist relations, for Warner Music Merchandising.

Polygram said the appointments were the first step of a strategic plan to expand in that area.

The new executive team will explore what the company termed “non-traditional” business opportunities and develop product, distribution, strategies and marketing programs for consumers.

Jim Caparro, president of PGD, also announced that Mark Fine of its PGD Special Markets division will relocate to the West Coast and start a new business venture for the distributor that will create specific packages to stimulate the occasional record buyer and target new purchasers.
