Everett Jacobs

Everett (Jake) Jacobs, a veteran Los Angeles radio and television newsman, has died.

He was 68.

Jacobs, who had cancer, died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said a spokeswoman for radio station KNX.

Born in Shreveport, La., Jacobs joined KNX in 1963, becoming one of the first blacks in the city’s broadcast field.

Jacobs retired from KNX in 1989.

Jacobs, who was a member of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People and the Los Angeles Urban League, is survived by his wife, Bernice, and three grown children, Phillip, Harriet and Sidney.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Bel-Vue Community United Presbyterian Church.
