Rolling Stone CD set to feature 110 songs

Rolling Stone magazine and Time Life Music are joining forces to produce a seven-CD or cassette package, “The Rolling Stone Collection: 25 Years of Essential Rock.”

The set, which will be available via mail order only beginning in January, will feature about 110 songs made famous over the past quarter century, sequenced in chronological order.

Package will sell for $ 99.

“The idea was to focus on music created by the artists we’ve covered in Rolling Stone over the past 25 years,” says Stone editor and publisher Jann Wenner. “It was not meant as a greatest-hits package, though obviously there are numerous hits on it.”

Package includes songs by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Prince and U2, selected by Time Life Music and Rolling Stone.

Time Life Music is producing a 30-minute infomercial to market the set, which will air nationwide beginning in January. Time Life owns all rights to the set, and is creating all marketing and advertising materials along with handling the distribution. Various Stone contributors are writing the liner notes.
