Madonna denies Gallic tax charge

Madonna over the weekend refuted French government claims that she owed 10 million francs ($2.2 million) in back taxes.

Speaking on the French TV news magazine show “7 sur 7,” the singer said, “It’s true, I owed them money a very long time ago (but that has been paid).

It’s not very nice to come into a country and find you owe $2 million. I think it’s the government, or whatever organization, using me to try to make a point to the workers that they should pay their taxes.”

In a separate meeting with reporters, the performer added, “I’m paid up with the tax administration, otherwise I couldn’t come to France. I think the tax commissioner just wants to meet me.”
