The Los Angeles Times shuffled the decks of its entertainment coverage yesterday, including a swap of its Daily Calendar and TV Times editors.Effective Jan. 11, Daily Calendar Editor Barbara Saltzman will become editor of the newspaper’s TV Times supplement, while Sherry Stern will move over from the TV Times to take the job of Daily Calendar Editor/Entertainment. Widening the move, Oscar Garza becomes Daily Calendar Editor/Arts, while Susan Freudenheim becomes Arts Editor. Previously, Garza was arts editor of the paper’s Calendar section, while Freudenheim was Calendar/View editor of the paper’s San Diego edition. The Times’ San Diego edition will cease publication on Friday. There were no Times staffers ankling as a result of the moves, according to Los Angeles Times Executive Calendar Editor John Lindsay. Lindsay was mum on whether the swap of Saltzman for Stern would spark changes in either the TV Times or Calendar sections. “Keep watching it, and see what happens,” he said. An internal memo detailing the changes was circulated to Times staffers yesterday. The appointments of Stern, Garza and Freudenheim follow on the heels of John Thurber’s appointment as Calendar Executive News Editor in November. The status of television editor Lee Margulies, movie editor Kelly Scott, pop music critic Robert Hilburn, theater critic Sylvie Drake, music/dance critic Martin Bernheimer, art critics Christopher Knight and Bill Wilson, television critic Howard Rosenberg, movie critic Kenneth Turan and all other editorial positions remained unchanged at the Times yesterday, according to Lindsay.
