Scripter ballots out in Dec.

This article was corrected on November 30, 1992. The films “City of Joy” and “Chaplin” have been added to the list of eligible films for the fifth annual Scripter Awards (Daily Variety, Nov. 24).

Ballots will go out next month to nominate five of 28 films that are eligible this year for the fifth annual Scripter Awards, given to the author and screenwriter of the best realization of a book as a film.

Among the eligible films are: “A Brief History of Time,””A Midnight Clear,””A River Runs Through It,””Bram Stoker’s Dracula,””Candyman,””Damage,””Enchanted April,””Howards End,””The Last of the Mohicans,””The Lover,””The Lunatic, “”Malcolm X,””The Mambo Kings”;

Also, “Memoirs of an Invisible Man,””Night and the City,””Of Mice and Men, “”Patriot Games,””The Player,””The Power of One,””Rampage,””Shining Through, “”Single White Female,””South Central,””This Is My Life,””Voyager,””Waterland” and “Where Angels Fear to Tread.”

The winner will be announced at a tea reception on Jan. 8.

Previous honorees include: “Fried Green Tomatoes,””Awakenings,””The Accidental Tourist” and “84 Charing Cross Road.”

Scripter is sponsored by the Friends of USC Libraries. The Scripter Awards will be held Jan. 30 at a black-tie dinner at the Doheny Memorial Library at USC.
