Belgian pic tops Sitges prizes

SITGES, Spain–The 25th edition of the Sitges Fantasy Fest wrapped here last night with Belgian pic “C’est Arrive Pres de Chez Vous” being awarded the prize for best film.

The fest drew directors Tobe Hooper, Peter Jackson, Vincent Ward, Quentin Tarantino, Stuart Gordon, Wes Craven, Ralph Bakshi and thesps Bruce Campbell, Peter Weller, Ellen Burstyn and Dolph Lundren.

Big plus for fest was world preem of Sam Raimi’s “Army of Darkness” and a screening of Ridley Scott’s “1492,” a day before its commercial release around Spain by indie distrib Lauren Films.

Following is a list of winners:

Film: “C’est Arrive Pres de Chez Vous” (It Has Come Close to You), (Belgian) director, Romy Belvaux, Andre Bonzel and Benoit Poelvoorde.

Director: Quentin Tarantino for “Reservoir Dogs” (U.S.).

Actress: Joey Wang in “A Chinese Ghost Story 3” (Hong Kong).

Actor: Benoit Poelvoorde in “C’est Arrive Pres de Chez Vous.”

Special effects: Richard Taylor and Bob McCarron for “Braindead” (New Zealand).

Screenplay: Quentin Tarantino for “Reservoir Dogs.”

Cinematography: Ramon Suarez for “L’Ocil Qui Ment” (The Eye That Lies) (French/Portuguest/British).

Sound: Jorge Arriagada for “L’Ocil Qui Ment.”

Short:”Jadoube” (Spain) by Antonio Morales.

Special Mention: “Tctsuo 2–The Body Hammer” (Japan).
