Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Television, the ITV company formed by the merger of adjacent regional webs in the north of England, has announced cost and staff reductions.
The cutbacks are expected to bring the company’s overheads into line with competitors in the industry.
Staff numbers will be reduced from 1,239 to 947. Further savings will be made by the creation of single transmission arrangements for the Yorkshire and Tyne Tees areas, the rationalization of airtime sales and a single program-making operation.
At the same time, Yorkshire-Tyne Tees is to invest additional funds in program development and local news coverage. Per chief exec Clive Leach, the company has a healthy program order book, with commissions for new series of “Heartbeat,””The Darling Buds of May,””Emmerdale” and “First Tuesday.”
