Sources deny Lear-TVS rumor

Norman Lear’s Act III Communications apparently is not involved in a potential bid to acquire TVS Entertainment, the U.K.-based parent company of MTM Enterprises, according to reliable sources.

A London newspaper reported that Lear’s Act III was making an offer in conjunction with TCW Capital, an investment arm of Trust Co. of the West, a Los Angeles company with broadcasting and publishing holdings.

However, sources say Act III is not involved in the bid. Rather, TCW holds a minority stake in Act III, which may have prompted the confusion.

TVS has an existing $ 66 million offer made by Pat Robertson, the conservative head of the Family Channel, through his Intl. Family Entertainment.

Lear, a renowned liberal, is currently producing the NBC series “The Powers That Be.”
