Hemdale creditors list grows

Another handful of unsecured creditors with claims totaling about $ 8.1 million have joined the angry group that pushed Hemdale Film Corp. into an involuntary bankruptcy Sept. 7.

The latest group added to previous claims made by other creditors brings the total reportedly owed to about $ 35 million.

Claims filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court late last week show:

  • Permanent Trustee Company Ltd., owed $ 4,546,549 plus accrued interest in connection with the film “TheTime Guardian.” Permanent Trustee claims it is also owed another $ 2,400,797 from “Great Expectations–The Australian Film.”

  • Northwood Communications Inc. and Robert MacLean, owed $ 735,000 for administrative expenses, development costs and profit participation fees due from the films “Criminal Law” and “Bright Angel.”

  • Black Swan Prods., owed $ 443,428 for distribution fees and revenues tied to the release “My Little Girl.”

  • Attorney Anthony G. Gross, owed $ 29,765 for legal services.

The latest batch of creditors is the second to join in the involuntary Hemdale bankruptcy. Svenska Handelsbanken, one of Sweden’s largest banks, joined two weeks ago (Daily Variety, Sept. 18).

All are represented by attorney Stephen Chrystie, while some are also represented by attorney James M. Donovan.

Neither attorney nor Hemdale officials could be reached late Friday for comment.
