LIN Broadcasting Corp. reported net losses for third quarter and nine months ended Sept. 30, partially from interest expenses and non-cash charges. For the quarter, net losses narrowed to $ 23.2 million (45 cents per share) from $ 42.2 million (82 cents) for the prior year.
Revenues rose 27% to $ 145.7 million, from $ 114.7 million. For the nine months, losses were $ 79.6 million ($ 1.55) compared to losses of $ 132.8 million ($ 2.58). Revenues grew 23% to $ 412.5 million from $ 334.7 million.
General Instrument has revised its third-quarter earnings as a result of plans to sell its parimutuel wagering biz as well as other assets to GTECH Corp. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Net loss for the quarter, ended Sept. 30, was put at $ 22 million (37 cents) and nine months at $ 60 million ($ 1.32); these revise company’s Oct. 22 reported figures of third-quarter earnings of $ 2 million and a nine-month net loss of $ 36 million.
BHC Communications’ net income rose 26% to $ 28.7 million ($ 1.08 per share) for the third quarter from $ 22.7 million (82 cents) for the prior year. Revenues rose 32% to $ 78.4 million from $ 59.4 million. Nine-month earnings dipped 3.6% to $ 75.6 million ($ 2.80) from $ 78.3 million ($ 2.81). Nine-month revenues rose 8% to $ 203.5 million from $ 188.3 million. BHC is majority owned by Chris-Craft Industries.
