Ad firms jockey for Savoy

Savoy Pictures Entertainment will select a list of ad agency finalists to compete for its account by mid-December, according to president of marketing Steve Hayman.

Hayman said he intends to hire an ad agency to provide media buying, planning , research, strategic positioning and promotional services for the fledgling entertainment company, which plans to market three films in 1993.

Its first release will be “A Bronx Tale,” starring and directed by Robert De Niro, which is nearing completion of principal photography.

Savoy hopes to expand its release schedule to about six or eight films in 1994.

As is traditional with motion picture studios, Hayman wants to use boutiques specializing in movie commercials and trailers.

So far, Savoy has accepted for consideration the Los Angeles offices of three multinational ad agencies, DMB&B, BBDO and Chiat/Day/Mojo.
