On the eve of NATPE, Viacom has confirmed it will try to launch a late fringe talkshow with Chicago radio/concert personality Jonathon Brandmeier.
The strip apparently could be readied for an April 1991 launch if enough stations show interest. It would be offered for cash plus barter, according to sources close to Viacom, and will be produced by the Fred Silverman Co. with NBC Prods.
Brandmeier, who earns $1 million-plus for his radio gig, hosts a toprated morning talkshow on WLUP-AM/FM Chicago, and also leads a rock ‘n’ roll band the Leisure Suits. He taped a special for NBC Prods, that was broadcast last August in latenight. A pilot for a possible latenight series was not picked up by the network.
Brandmeier also has sat in for Bob Costas and acted in a tv movie last fall called “Thanksgiving Day.” Sources in Chicago describe him as a droll, breezy, humorous host.
