Station Sales Set

Sinclair Broadcast Group is buying Renaissance Communications’ WPGH-TV, a Fox-affiliated indie, for $55 million. David D. Smith, exec v.p. of Sinclair, and Michael Finkelstein, prexy of Renaissance, made the joint announcement.

And just one day after Sinclair arranged to buy WPGH and put its own WPTT-TV on the market, WPTT was sold to its own station manager, Edward Edwards. Edwards, who is black and has been with the station since its 1978 sign-on, will be the first minority businessman to own a station in a top 20 market. The deal is subject to FCC approval.
